According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “obesity has doubled worldwide since 1980. In 2008, over 1.4 billion adults aged 20 and older were overweight. In 2011, over 40 million children under 5 were overweight. And 65 percent of the world’s population live in countries where more people die from being overweight or obese than from being underweight.”
It is also said that more deaths are attributed to obesity-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) diabetes and hypertension combined than deaths caused by HIV/AIDS. And that long-term medication of diabetes and hypertension (which begin from being overweight/obese) eventually leads to chronic kidney disease.

In a forum dubbed “Sugar Talk” at Astoria Plaza, Philippine College for Advancement in Medicine vice president Dr. Rosario Austria raised the alarm on “the top two killer diseases, CVD and stroke; members of the next generation dying of heart attacks in their 30s; and the mushrooming of dialysis centers all over town because of the rising number of diabetics.
In the same forum, Dr. Art Dulce, a doctor of naturopathic medicine who specializes on alternative medicine, cited some of the ways by which people could help reduce the obesity rate: “A healthy lifestyle, exercise, a diet high in fiber (fruits and vegetables), and eating organic/natural food.”
Dr. Austria mentioned Formula 21, or F21 which contains L-Arabinose; Konjac-mannan; and Polysaccharide/PSK.
F21 helps lessen the absorption of sugar. Konjac-mannan is a natural appetite suppressant that reduces hunger cravings and makes one feel full. L-Arabinose satisfies sugar cravings.
