Applications developer Ben Wintle was only supposed to move to Manila to build a team that would deliver “delightful social experiences” for a global audience. But the co-founder of Scrambled Eggs Ltd. (eggsapp.com) got more of the limelight than what he bargained for. While his apps lured techies, Wintle got actress Iza Calzado smitten.
Wintle’s work in the field follows his lifestyle philosophy of finding the most effective and natural way to accomplish something in the fastest time possible.
This means dumping all the artificial and unnecessary and seeking nature itself. As Wintle sees it, when it comes to his lifestyle and grooming essentials, less is more.
New territory
I ended up coming to Manila because… I was in search of good programmers. Before working in tech, I had a China-focused head-hunting company. I grew up in Hong Kong, studied in the UK, and worked in Hong Kong and Shanghai before finding myself in the Philippines.
You’d be surprised to know that… I can speak Mandarin.
I call Manila my home because… Let’s just say I ended up staying because of a girl and a puppy.
The kind of projects I’d want to work on in the future involve… educating people on healthy eating. For example, Filipinos are so hooked on food and drink loaded with refined sugar. It’s no wonder that cancer rates are so high in this country. I accept that people may always have a sweet tooth but there are many natural and locally produced sweeteners like coco sugar that are great alternatives.
My work mantra is… If you want a job done well, do it yourself.
My life mantra is… Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
The best and worst thing about dating a celebrity is… Best thing is the attentive service at restaurants while the worst thing is people asking for a photo while we’re trying to eat.
Keeping it simple
I choose my meals by… where they came from and how it is cooked. I eat a variety of grass-fed meats and organic vegetables and never touch anything fried in vegetable oil. The general rule is to keep away from food that wasn’t around before modern agriculture, i.e. grains, dairy and anything refined.
When it comes to dressing up… I like linens and fine cotton, but I’m very particular about the fit and cut. When it comes to shoes, I don’t like to shop for more than I functionally need, but the ones I do purchase fit my criteria exactly for weight and shape.
I simplify my grooming routine by… keeping to natural products. I use Tom’s of Maine natural men’s deodorant, Alba Botanical coconut shampoo, Nature’s Gate peppermint toothpaste and Aesop mandarin facial hydrating lotion. I’ll use a few other products like Oral B and Myra lotion from Iza.
