Sinag Arts Foundation, in cooperation with SM North Edsa and SM Aura, presents a restaging of the musical “Song of Joseph” on Dec. 11 at the Skydome of SM North Edsa, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and at Samsung Hall SM Aura, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The show is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Makati, Fort Bonifacio chapter, for the benefit of Bahay Kalinga and Tuloy sa Don Bosco.
“Song of Joseph” is a pop-rock musical about the life of St. Joseph, put into words and music that range from classically inspired melodies to Broadway-type solo and group renditions. It is the first original Filipino full-length musical on the man who took care of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Produced by Fr. Rony Alkonga, OSJ (Oblates of St. Joseph), “Song of Joseph” has lyrics and libretto by Fides Cuyugan-Asensio, and music by Raymond and Jeannelle Bihag-Roldan.
The cast is composed of veteran musical-theater actors, among them Al Gatmaitan, Jeannelle Roldan, Kaye Balajadia Lingayu, Melanie Dujunco, Emlyn Olfindo, Charlene de Asis Magalit, Miguel Aguila, Maricris Joaquin, Greg de Leon, Edwin Decenteseo, Dondi Ong, Jonaf del Fiero, John Ocampos, Marvin Gayramon, Nazer Salcedo, Madonna Decena, Faye Reyes and the Marist School Choral Group.
“A tremendous surprise was the brilliant vocal performance of the cast, specifically of Joseph, Mary, Joachim and Herod… It is always a cause for celebration when a musical is created by a local talent, theater here being riddled with works by foreign authors,” said eminent critic Rosalinda Orosa in her November 2009 review in The Philippine Star.
