The Federation of Tagalog Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FTDLC) will hold its fourth congress at the Archdiocese of Manila (St. Anthony Church and School, Singalong, Manila) on May 19.
The congress is part of a series of activities that started last year to mark the 50th anniversary of Musicam Sacram, the instruction on Roman Catholic sacred music issued by the Sacred Congregation of Rites on March 5, 1967 to implement Sacrosanctum Concilium, the constitution on sacred liturgy issued by the Second Vatican Council in 1963.
Theme of the 2018 congress is “Musicam Sacram, Ginintuang Taon: Balik-Tanaw Tungo sa Bagong Landasin.”
“The gathering will be a great opportunity for inspiration and musical enrichment for our parish music ministers through the various topics regarding sacred music and the workshops that we intend to give to the participants,” Fr. Leo Nilo Mangussad, director of the FTDLC Sub-Commission on Music, said.
Fr. Virgilio Hernandez will discuss “Music of the Reformation Period” while Fr, Mangussad will tackle “Contemporary Styles of Liturgical Music.”
Workshops, according to Fr. Allan Antonio of the Diocese of Malolos, will be on adult/youth choir and children’s choir (for conductors); Gregorian chant; guitar; organ; composition; music writing and encoding; rudiments of music (for choir members; basic cantoring; and choral arrangement.
Registration is online or through representative per diocese. Pre-registration fee is P500; walk-in, P700.

New bishop to be ordained
Fr. Bartolome Gaspar Santos Jr. of the Diocese of Malolos, recently named by Pope Francis as bishop of the Diocese of Iba in Zambales, will be ordained today, April 30, at the Malolos Cathedral.
To consecrate him is Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros, along with Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle and San Fernando Archbishop Florentino Lavarias.
Santos was born in Santa Maria, Bulacan, on Dec. 1, 1967. He finished Philosophy and Theology Studies at University of Santo Tomas in Manila, and licentiate in Biblical Theology at Gregorian University in Rome.

A Dominican missionary during the medieval ages, San Vicente Ferrer is considered a miraculous saint and the patron saint of builders.
The church, which hosts the National Shrine of La Naval de Manila, is also holding the perpetual novena to the Santissimo Rosario de La Naval de Manila every Saturday, 5:30 p.m.
