MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s gowns have always paid homage to the Philippine culture and natural beauty, which was once more on display during her final walk as Miss Universe when she donned a gown inspired by the Philippine Eagle’s reflection on the sea.
Mak Tumang, the designer behind Gray’s iconic Mayon Volcano – inspired ensemble, gave a closer look to the blue gown in his Instagram account.

“The creation’s inspiration stems from the vision of the Philippine Eagle flying over the flawless turquoise seas embracing our archipelago,” Tumang captioned his post Monday.
“Despite its mighty ability to soar up high far beyond the clouds, it could still manage to look down until the point of reflecting itself on the shiny waters,” he added.

“This display of both might & humility is the call each of us heeds. As a nation, we are to have a steadfast spirit yet we also take a moment to journey within ourselves. By doing so, we could be able to mirror the beauty that is within us, to mirror what is true and just and to mirror the light which illuminates our path,” Tumang further said.
Other ensembles designed by Tumang and worn by Gray during her pageant and reign were the “Ibong Adarna”- inspired gown, sampaguita – inspired jumpsuit, waling-waling – inspired gown, and more.
