Sayaw Pinoy, the annual dance showcase of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), kicked off its monthlong tour around the country last Jan. 31 in Ormoc, Leyte, during the Visayas launch of the National Arts Month (NAM).
NAM is celebrated every February. Sayaw Pinoy is the flagship program of NCCA’s National Committee on Dance for NAM. It is spearheaded by Shirley Halili-Cruz.
It had a run during the National Capital Region opening of NAM last Feb.1 at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium, which also served as the opening of Sayaw Pinoy’s shows every Sunday of the month for the Concert at the Park.The dance showcase had its series of performances last week during the NAM’s Luzon kickoff celebration in Puerto Princesa City. It will grace the NAM’s Mindanao launch in Misamis Occidental on Feb. 15-16.
Sayaw Pinoy will be visiting other places such as Bulacan, Pampanga, Zamboanga del Sur, South Cotabato, Butuan, Cebu, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Marikina, San Juan and Pasig.
Annually, the program is participated by hundreds of performers from different dance companies all over the country. The performances vary from ballet to folk dance, hiphop, contemporary and neoclassical dance, among others.—CONTRIBUTED INQ
