While everyone has been affected by the pandemic, actor Jerome Ponce found some activities that helped him address his anxieties during these difficult times.

“Ang ginawa ko na lang ay nag-catch up ako. Tinake advantage ko ‘yung time na binigay ng pandemic, alam mo ‘yun?” Ponce said during the online press conference for “GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes” last June 26. (What I did was catch up. I took advantage of the time afforded by the pandemic, you know that?)

The digital series, which will be streamed on the Puregold Facebook page and YouTube channel starting July 10 also stars Nikko Natividad and Dave Bornea, with Carmi Martin and Wilma Doesnt.

Ponce, who stars in the series, made video calls with his relatives and returned to his hobby of playing computer games. These made him cope with pandemic stress, on moments when he wondered what to do with his life.

“What’s next, what to do beside work, beside the showbiz industry, the movie industry,” he pointed out. Incidentally, he plays the character of Jawo in the series, an undergraduate who falls in love easily.

“Nakaka-relate ako dahil funny talaga ‘yung character. Gusto ko talagang maging funny. Gusto niya ring mag-artista kasi,” Ponce said. (I can relate because the character is really funny. I really want to be funny. He also wants to be an actor.)

Playing the role is a big change for Ponce and it allowed him to do things he didn’t usually do in a series.

“Ako, honestly, dito kapag napanood ninyo, talagang may maio-offer kami. Katulad nong sa akin, hindi ko nga alam na nag-flip ‘yung career ko ng 200%. Hindi ko alam kung tama ‘yung tinatahak ng career ko dahil sa pinapagawa ng director namin,” he said.

(As for me, honestly, when you watch this, we really got something to offer. Just like in my role, I didn’t know that my career flipped 200%. I didn’t know if my career was taking the right path because of what our director was asking me to do.)

Ponce assured his fans and followers that they will roll with laughter while watching the series, clarifying that it’s not an obscene or rude type of fun.

“Nakita ko na puro serious ‘yung mga nagagawa kong project pero pagdating naman dito ay sobrang comedy, thanks to the director and sa writer po,” he said.

(I saw that my previous projects were all serious, but in this one, it’s extremely a comedy, thanks to the director and writer.)

“GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes” is inspired by the 1990s TV sitcom “Palibhasa Lalake” which starred Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez and John Estrada. JB
