TV host Bianca Gonzalez is quick to dispel the popular notion that “Pinoy Big Brother” has become just one big artista search.
Gonzalez acknowledged that many believe the show has become a repository of aspiring actors, but that is not the goal, she explained.
“Marami din ang nag-tweet sa akin niyan na ‘naku, puro magaganda’t guwapo na naman ang kukinin. I think time and time again, season after season, bonus para sa amin ‘yung may biglang may sisikat at magso-showbiz after,” Gonzalez said during the Aug. 30 online press conference for the latest season of the show, titled “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10.”
(A lot of people tweet me that, saying only good-looking ones will be chosen. I think time and time again, season after season, it’s a bonus for us if someone gets famous and would enter showbiz after.)
Gonzalez, who admitted she has seen the process of selection, stressed that while the housemates are being cast, the goal is not to make them celebrities or popular. She likened the selection process to other reality TV shows where contestants are chosen based on specific or unique things they can bring in, to get a “good mix.”
“Ito, lagi rin itong sinasabi ni direk Lauren, kahit papaano, TV show pa rin siya kaya siguro may napapasok talaga na magaganda’t guwapo,” she added.
(This is what direk Lauren (Dyogi) says, that somehow, since it is still a TV show, that may be the reason why there really would be pretty and handsome contestants.)
“So, it’s not an artist search but I don’t necessarily think na it’s a bad thing na may mga nagbabago ang buhay at nagiging mga (that there are those whose lives have changed and have become) Kim Chiu [and] Melai Cantiveros after the season,” she said.
To audition for “PBB Kumunity Season 10,” hopefuls need to download the Kumu app, create an account and upload a 1-minute Kumu clip where they will introduce themselves and say why they deserve to become housemates. Contestants must use the hashtag “PBBKumuAdults.”
Auditions for the Adult Edition (for those who are 20 to 40 years old) will be until Sept. 30, while auditions for the Teen Edition (for 15 to 19 years old), will be from Dec. 1 to 31, and will require the hashtag “PBBKumuTeens.” JB
