Actress and animal welfare advocate Carla Abellana is asking the public to adopt captured and abandoned stray dogs that are about to go through euthanasia.
Abellana made the appeal on her Instragram post today, Oct. 14, where she showed a photo of a mother dog and her litter.
“There are thousands of abandoned and captured strays awaiting euthanasia in city pounds all over the Philippines. Their eyes show exactly how they feel,” she said. “Please adopt? Save them from getting killed days after they’re taken to the pound?”
Abellana also shared a message from Bohol Animal Rescue & Kindness, a non-government organization that promotes animal welfare.
“The past days we have received a good number of messages and comments from those who want to adopt. Earlier today we visited the City Pound and shared some food with the impounded dogs,” the group stated.
“Today we met Mama dog and her litter,” the group added, referring to the dogs shown in the photo. “Even though she was outwardly calm, we can feel her sadness and anxiety. The look of helplessness and the silent cry for help. They were surrendered by their owner to the city pound. They are awaiting adoption or they will be euthanized by the local government.”
“[Many] have expressed that they want to adopt. For those who want to open their homes and adopt a homeless or surrendered pet, this family is knocking at your door. Their days are numbered,” the group appealed.
The organization is willing to assist individuals who want to adopt by helping expedite the adoption process with the Office of the City Veterinarian. JB
