‘My Hero Academia’ is getting a shiny new battle royale game | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Battle royale games are all the rage. With Super Mario getting in on the action a year ago, anime is, once again, proving that they (probably) have superior fighting skills—just thank “My Hero Academia.”

As reported by Gematsu, an article from the Weekly Shōnen Jump detailed Japanese video game publisher Bandai Namco’s announcement of My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble, a free-to-play game available on several gaming platforms. Ultra Rumble is expected to follow battle royales’ regular premise, where players compete in combat until the last person stands. Unlike other battle royales that gather up to 100 players, however, Ultra Rumble will be smaller in scale with 24 allowed in a match.

The “My Hero Academia” battle royale is based on the manga and anime adaptation of the same name, which centers on Izuku Midoriya (a.k.a. Deku), a non-superpowered boy in a world where powers are the norm.

Ultra Rumble will be the latest addition to the anime’s video game saga, which began with 2016’s My Hero Academia: Battle for All for the Nintendo 3DS. This time, the battle royale game will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

But before it officially launches, Ultra Rumble will open up slots for a closed beta test, with details soon available on its official site. I, for one, am already calling dibs to play Megan Thee Stallion’s fave character—just so you know.

Still from “My Hero Academia”
