Comedian Viveika Ravanes enjoyed her role immensely in the latest incarnation of “Darna” because her character is close to Narda played by Jane de Leon.

“Ako po si Marites, a gossiper with a heart. Si Marites po ay perky, happy neighbor ni Narda doon sa community namin. Love ako ng mga kapitbahay ko. Mabait akong kapitbahay,” she said during the face-to-face grand mediacon for “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series” earlier this month.

(I play Marites, a gossiper with a heart. Marites is a perky, happy neighbor of Narda… My neighbors love me. I am a good neighbor.)

As the neighborhood gossiper, Ravanes announces the latest news and developments in their town.

“Bago pa malaman sa bahay nina Narda at Lola Berta, nauuna na ako, humahangos na ako doon,” she said. (Even before they know about the news at the house of Narda and Lola Berta, I am first to arrive, I immediately go there.)

While growing up, Ravanes got acquainted with “Darna” through komiks, noting that she even watched “Darna Vs. Planet Women” by Vilma Santos in 1975.

Through the years, Ravanes noticed that the “Darna” story has evolved, but still, it has not lost its appeal to the masses.

“Pansin ninyo, kada decade ng ‘Darna’ na palabas ay nagle-level up siya pero ‘yung panahon na ipinalabas siya noong araw, patok, ‘di ba? Tanggap ng masa, gandang-ganda sila,” she said.

(Take note, every decade when “Darna” appears, it always levels up. But when it was shown decades back, it was still a hit, right? Embraced by the masses. They have always loved it.)
