A24 is reportedly in talks with director Matt Johnson for a biopic that will star “The Holdovers” actor Dominic Sessa as the late American celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain


 

An Anthony Bourdain biopic titled “Tony” is in the works per reports. American independent film and television production company A24 is said to be in talks to acquire the Matt Johnson-directed film starring “The Holdovers” star Dominic Sessa. The Canadian actor and filmmaker Johnson is best known for the 2023 biographical comedy-drama “Blackberry.”

Star Thrower, the Oscar-nominated company behind films like “King Richard,” is believed to be involved in the project although it has not made any public comments confirming this.

Joining the biopic production team are Tim and Trevor White of Star Thrower and Matt Miller as producers, Lou Howe and Todd Bartels as screenwriters, and Emily Rose as executive producer.

This is not the first film that will explore Bourdain’s life after the chef turned author and TV host died by suicide in 2018.

In 2021, the documentary “Roadrunner” premiered at Tribeca Festival. It received critical acclaim but shortly became embroiled in controversy after its director Morgan Neville admitted to using artificial intelligence to reproduce Bourdain’s voice in some clips.

The upcoming biopic “Tony” has yet to detail which parts of Bourdain’s life it will portray.
