Tinman 10: Celebrating a decade of Trisports Adventure

Tinman 10 gave nearly 250 participants a race filled with energy and nostalgia

On Mar. 16 and 17, Trisports Solutions, Inc., in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, hosted the annual Northern Waves Open Water Swim and the much-awaited 10th year of Tinman: Tri Ilocos Norte, the most scenic triathlon event at the northernmost part of the Philippines, at Playa Tropical Beach Resort.

With a total of about 245-strong triathletes and three relay teams, the gun started at exactly 6:10 a.m. for the 113K (1.9K swim – 90K bike – 21.1K run) distance followed shortly by the standard distance (1.5K swim – 40K bike – 10K run) and sprint distance (750m swim – 20K bike  – 5K run) categories.

Jethro Karl Ramos and Lourdes Angela Ramos from the Baguio Benguet Triathlon team finished first overall in the men’s and women’s 113K category with a total finish time of 4:49:03 and 6:37:01 respectively.

Triathletes experienced the calm and clear waters of Currimao, the long and rolling bike route of  Paoay-Suba-Balacao Road passing through the historic St. Augustine Church and the Paoay Lake. And to top it all, Tinman 10 participants coursed through the elegant Currimao Sea wall boulevard while passing through the most picturesque Pangil Coral Rock formation and the Spanish Era watchtower as they pushed through towards the finish line.

Several raffle prizes, sponsored by Road Tag, and other vouchers and Tinman shirts were also given away to participants present during the awarding ceremony. Trophies and medals were also awarded to the top age-group and overall category finishers.

For the past decade, Trisports, through the support of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and the municipality of Currimao has successfully staged Tinman 10, which was also awarded the Best Sports Tourism Event of the Year (Domestic) in 2019 during the 4th Philippine Sports  Tourism Awards at Clark Mariott Hotel in December 2020.

Tinman 10 is also co-presented by its official hotel and venue partners, Playa Tropical Resort and Currimar Addison  Hotel.
