MIBF 2020 is going online (and so is my book hoarding) - Scout Magazine

OCTOBER 27, 2022

With my serial case of tsundoku, it isn’t that surprising that I treat the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) as my personalized Christmas. My expectations of it to return this year were little to none, what with the packed crowds almost synonymous with the MIBF experience.

Well, like most things, MIBF is now going online. And so is my book hoarding.

Happening from Nov. 24 to 30, this year’s version of MIBF is a four-day book and publishing fest that’s all happening in the digital space. While they’ll be behind the screen, regular goers can expect the usual round of interactive content that usually happens in the convention halls. MIBF Online will host activities such as video streaming and virtual exhibitions. They won’t skip out on the Q&As either, as the folks of MIBF plan to host exclusive panel discussions and seminars through virtual conference platforms.

As for the main event, e-attendees can splurge on books at their digital market space using a dedicated e-commerce platform.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a major curveball at event organizers, not just in the Philippines but all around the world. We are disappointed that we cannot hold the Manila International Book Fair on its 41st year as usual, but we are up to the challenge of innovating MIBF and all other future events for the new normal,” said Primetrade Asia, Inc. president Irene Lloren.

“We completely understand that it will not feel the same as attending the physical MIBF, but we will strive to make this year’s online event as close to it as possible. And when you come back to our physical event, hopefully by next year, we will bring you an MIBF that is stronger and better than before,” Lloren added.

More deets on the full sched are still comin’ up, but you can check out their site. Aight, I’ll go and clear my bookshelf now.
