Part I

Why is it that some people can heal ailments with a simple touch of their hands, while others cannot? Where does this healing energy come from? And can this healing energy be developed or enhanced?

Since the beginning of human history, people were aware of this mysterious force that certain individuals possess.

They accord such persons a special place in their society. They were called various names: shamans, hunas, healers, magicians and even white witches by different cultures.

This subtle but powerful energy has been studied and analyzed in scientific laboratories in North America, Western and Eastern Europe, Russia and Asia.

They have been called by so many names in different countries, such as “chi” in China, “ki” in Japan, “prana” in India.

Individual researchers have given it different names. Anton Mesmer in France called it “animal magnetism,” Paracelsus called it “archeus,” Wilhelm Reich called it “orgone energy,” and Reichenbach called it “Odic force.”

But not one could tell exactly what it is and where such energy comes from. Eastern European and Russian scientists refer to it as “bioenergy” or “bioplasma” because it is found in living human beings.

However, it has been known for thousands of years that even inanimate objects like gems and stones, plants, fruits, spring water, sound, and sacred places can possess healing powers.

Some skeptics have postulated that the healing that takes place is merely psychological, that it depends on the belief and expectation of a cure by the patient, and not because there is an objective and independent source of the healing energy.

Scientific experiments

But this theory has been proven wrong by several scientific experiments.

In the mid-1990s, for example, a group of Hungarian physicists brought to the Philippines a device that could measure a person’s energy field.

A subject was asked to put his or her two hands on both sides of the device without touching it. An indicator, similar to an altimeter, measured the energy emitted by 12-degree points.

They found that the average human can move the indicator only up to the 6th degree while a magnetic healer can do it up to the 8th degree.

Filipino psychic surgeons sent the indicator up to the maximum 12th degree.

The Hungarians then went to Baguio to test the energy field of the healer Jun Labo and were shocked at their discovery.

They placed the device carefully under the bed where Labo practiced. The pointer went berserk when Jun Labo started making an incision on the patient’s body.

Probably the most convincing scientific study of the existence of a mysterious healing energy, which cannot be attributed to psychological factors or placebo, are the experiments conducted by Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Bernard Grad of McGill University on the famous Hungarian healer Oskar Estebany.

To determine the effectiveness of Estebany’s healing hands, Grad gathered 300 mice which were divided into three groups.

In one group, small incisions were made on the backs of mice. The areas of these wounds were measured and photographed regularly over an 18-day period.

“Estebany was asked to hold the caged mice between his hands for 20 minutes twice daily,” reported Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove in his massive book “Roots of Consciousness.”

“(A second) control group received similar handling from medical students who did not claim to have unusual healing ability. While the third group of mice simply remained in their cages without handling at all…

The experiment showed significantly faster wound healing in the mice treated by Estebany.

“In another experiment, Grad used barley seeds which were treated with a saline solution… The healer merely held one sealed bottle in his hands for 30 minutes. A control bottle of solution was not ‘healed.’ The seeds were soaked in the solution and allowed to dry for 48 hours. They were baked in an oven just long enough to injure, but not kill them.

“Twenty seeds were planted in each of 24 pots, with identical soil, temperature and humidity conditions. During the test period, no person knew which seeds had been given the treated water. Estebany himself had no contact with the barley seeds.”

Result: “Those pots with seeds which had been watered from the bottles treated by the healer had more plants growing in them and the plants were also taller.”
