What’s better than a K-drama? A K-drama… with more jazz hands. For popular series “Hotel Del Luna,” this could soon be a reality now that it’s gearing up for a stage musical adaptation.
Recent reports have announced that the 2019 supernatural drama is getting the stage treatment in 2022. The project will be led by production company Showplay, which has produced several musicals and dramas in the country.
Originally aired over Korean network TVN, “Hotel Del Luna” centers on a hotel for ghosts and its thousand-year-old CEO Jang Man Wol (IU), who’s cursed to manage the old establishment due to a crime she doesn’t even remember. Goo Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo) soon enters the picture, and is forced to manage the hotel after a deal with his dad and Man Wol.
The OG “Hotel Del Luna” drama has an OST that boasts artists like Red Velvet, Chungha, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, 10cm and more, so it’s not our fault if our expectations for this musical are a tad bit high. Couple that with translating the fantasy elements into the stage and we’re all eyes (and ears).
Now, can we ask for a Philippine leg, please? (When we can peacefully coexist inside theaters again, of course.)
