The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) may be the more popular league, but when it comes to grooming the next college basketball superstars, the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) high school division has so much to choose from.
In celebration of the National Arts Month (NAM) in February, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will stage “Taal-Tunugan” as part of its Philippine Arts Festival. The event will showcase a new musical ensemble whose instruments are made from scraps and other recycled materials.
Although the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) initially shelved the Dayaw indigenous people’s national celebration in Tacloban last November due to Supertyphoon “Yolanda,” it reset the event and held a much different celebration altogether.
Last Saturday, the two schools’ respective cage squads met again on the hardcourt of Smart Araneta Coliseum, though in a different occasion; San Beda, the 2013 NCAA champion, battled La Salle, the 2013 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) titleholder, for a charity game.
The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) probably had one of the longest basketball seasons ever. The tournament ended Nov. 16, with the San Beda Red Lions beating the Letran Knights.
Collegiate basketball season has come to an end. Basketball fans, in this case, those rooting for San Beda, had all the reasons to celebrate—the Red Lions bagged the NCAA championship for a fourth straight year.
High school basketball may not be as attention-getting as collegiate basketball, but this year at the National College Athletics Association (NCAA), it was a different case altogether because of the emerging rivalry between San Beda and La Salle Green Hills.
Longer isn’t always better. It may be a drag, like very long movies.
Most collegiate basketball fans know of the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the Philippines (NCAA), Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) as the only basketball tournaments. These tournaments showcase the main team, or team A, of participating schools.
