Part III
Life is a continuing educational journey. Not only do we learn more about the world we live in as we go along, but also how we interact with the world and, in so doing, how we can begin to master ourselves.
In the enlightening book “The Enzyme Factor,” Dr. Hiromi Shinya reveals how enzymes play a pivotal role in the life of a cell. This very life force will determine the outcome of our health profile.
The human body’s approximately 50 trillion cells carry a life force, he says. And within every human being is a source enzyme that can become any specialized enzyme needed to help convert energy, metabolize fat, manage digestion, determine brain health.
This life force determines and shapes our health condition and challenges. Lifestyle also plays a strong influence on one’s health profile and outcome. More specifically, consuming natural, fresh and organic food stimulates enzymes production.
Balanced meal
The ideal balanced meal consists of 85-percent plant and 15-percent animal food.
This is based on a biological truth: Humans have all of 32 teeth (including wisdom teeth) with this breakdown:
To eat plant-based food, there are two pairs of incisors (front teeth, top and bottom) plus five molars (top and bottom).
And to eat animal food, there is one pair of canine teeth (top and bottom). With a ratio of 7 to 1, that’s one pair of canine teeth to two incisors and five molars.
Translation: one canine to eat meat, two incisors and molars to eat plant-based foods.
Put another way, the ideal ratio of plant to animal-based food is 85-90 percent to 10-15 percent, respectively.
Grains should be about 50 percent, vegetables and fruits 40 percent and meat at 10-15 percent. Take note that it’s best to take unrefined/whole grains.
Chew, don’t gulp
Believe it or not, it is recommended to chew food 30-50 times. Once, the standard used to be 18-20. The reason for this is, the more you chew, the more saliva the mouth secretes to aid in digestion.
Weight-loss tip: Chew well and more! Chewing creates a feeling of fullness quickly. Whatever you don’t chew may ferment in your body. This may cause a host of problems such as indigestion, constipation, malabsorption and poor nutrition.
Chewing is also a parasite killer. Chewing kills more unseen parasites and insects found in common foods.
And here’s a piece of advice for carnivores: If you are a pork or steak kind of person, pamper yourself some of the time—but not all of the time. If you let go 5 percent of the time, the remaining 95 percent means that you are conscious of your health.
This is a liberating and empowering truth—that our daily habits can alter one’s genes. Good habits can overcome bad genes.
While it is a fact that we are all born with specific hereditary factors, it is also important to know that the accumulation of good health habits can influence our biological makeup negatively or positively.
