One of our uniquely Filipino traits is our passion for celebration. Every town has its own fiesta for its patron saint.
One of the biggest and most festive of these is Cebu’s Sinulog festival in honor of the Sto. Niño. “Pit Senyor!” is the cry of the city’s millions, and in a modern twist, Viber seems to have been the preferred messaging app for all the attendees.
The merrymaking started with the Cut and Style fashion event at SM Cebu, continued with LifeDance at Cebu Boardwalk, moved on to Wet Weekend at the Cebu Yacht Club, and culminated with the biggest street party, Sinulog Invasion at Baseline.
Vibrant colors
Islands Souvenirs and Viber showcased vibrant festival colors with Cebu’s favorite personalities in an edgy fashion show. The runway show at SM Cebu’s North Wing Atrium showcased limited-edition Viber Sinulog shirts, with fashion bloggers Laureen Uy and Kryz Uy, as well as Hollywood “master shredder” Adam Saaks displaying their customized creations. Islands Souvenirs’ main boss Jay Aldeguer was truly enjoying the collection.
Not far away at the Cebu Boardwalk, LifeDance, Cebu’s biggest outdoor music festival, was in high gear with hundreds of Viber users given free entrance. For the duration of DJ Jimmy Carris’ set, Viber treated its guests to free beer at the Viber VIP Lounge. DJ Chris Lake got everyone jumping and dancing until the end of the smashing affair.
Early the next day, the Cebu Yacht Club had over 500 enthusiastic souls enjoying a “Wet Weekend” experience like no other. Viber DJ ambassadors Martin Pulgar, Marc Naval and Ace Ramos took everyone on the ultimate party-sailing experience. Crystal Lee, Viber’s country manager, chatted with special guests like Cacay Moras and KC Montero as they sailed to the open seas.
The highlight was the Sinulog Invasion, with Viber giving away exclusive merchandise and free entrance to the Viber party. Dutch superstar DJ Quintino flew all the way from The Netherlands to play at the event, bringing his massive dance hit “Epic” to thousands of excited party bangers.

Fiestas aside, another cause for celebration for us Pinoys is our multitude of national holidays. Two days ago was one of the biggest, the Chinese New Year.
Opulent show
Sofitel Philippine Plaza marked the Year of the Horse with the “Shanghai Nights” fashion show, the unveiling of a 15-piece collection by renowned designer Albert Andrada. The show ushered in a new year of fortune and abundance, with Albert’s vision of the Paris of the East, Shanghai.
For this Year of the Horse, Albert put together a sexy yet opulent collection. Inspired by Chinese red lanterns and the gold colors from the lights of Shanghai, his collection celebrated the silhouette of women through the masterful use of red, white, black and gold colors using chiffon fabrics, French laces, crepe silk and duchess satin. The designer also used his signature Swarovski components and embroidery techniques to bring out an even more opulent look.
The show was presented by Sofitel Philippine Plaza, pearls by Jewelmer, hair by Kiehl’s and make up by Gino Alduente. “Shanghai Nights” was directed by Robby Carmona, with models from Mercator Model Management. The Spiral staircase was transformed into a catwalk for the evening. Patrons also won fabulous prizes from Jewelmer and Kiehl’s, and calligrapher Alexis Ventura showcased his live paintings.
Spiral is offering a special, 18-treasures-themed menu by executive Chinese chef Mok Chee Wah until Feb. 2. The Chinese New Year’s celebration is highlighted by auspicious food from different regions of China.
It seems everyone has his or her own special way of celebrating the Chinese New Year. The Belo Medical Group and its celebrity endorsers did just that, resolving to make the next 365 days their most beautiful yet.
Dr. Vicki Belo started the year fresh by throwing a luncheon party. The most beautiful Belo babies were featured in the sought-after and controversial Belo 2014 calendar. Andi Eigenmann, Derek Ramsay, Ruffa Gutierrez, Tom Rodriguez, Matteo Guidicelli, Alden Richards and Angeline Quinto, all proud to be Belo babies, shared some of their interesting New Year’s resolutions during the lunch. Each month of the Belo 2014 calendar features a Belo baby in a very sexy and stunning photo.
Top 5 beauty treatments
This year the Belo Medical Group is launching the top five beauty regimens that are forecast to take 2014 by storm. These include the Belo Vitamin Infusion, a procedure that delivers vitamins straight into the bloodstream for extra vigor and enhanced immunity, along with anti-aging and whitening benefits.
Then there is Regenlite, a laser treatment that provides fast, effective treatment for all grades of acne vulgaris and vascular problems, as well as skin rejuvenation. Also on the list is RevLite + Acupuncture facial, a breakthrough formula that addresses pigmentation problems, with acupuncture to stimulate and improve underlying muscle tone and prevent facial sagging.
The fourth regimen is Embedded Protein Threads, which restores volume loss on the face and addresses problems like loose facial skin and jowling. The final procedure is Stem Factors, the application of the active component of stem cells directly to the skin for rejuvenation.
The Belo Medical Group has been rapidly expanding. Sexy Solutions, its nonsurgical arm, is launching “Your Dream Come True,” a book that explains the latest and most effective fitness and health tips, and anchored by Edward Mendez, the company’s fitness expert.
Sexy Solutions promotes a holistic approach to lifestyle that combines technology, nutrition and fitness. The book features fitness tips and programs that allow one to “eat more, exercise less.” It does sound like magic, but the science is in getting our metabolism to function at its best.
