ICYMI: Cinemalaya 2021 is happening this August. While the full-length features category will still be excluded, there will be 13 shorts in the competition. The film festival will also be running for four weeks from Aug. 6 to Sept. 6.

Cinemalaya is exploring a different digital platform this year, now showing all competing and tribute films on KTX.ph. They will also be attempting a hybrid setup with outdoor live streaming at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

These are the following films in the shorts competition:

  • “An Sadit na Planeta” by Arjanmar H. Rebeta
  • “Ang mga Nawalang Pag-asa at Panlasa” by Kevin Jay Ayson
  • “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Lola Mayumi” by Shiri de Leon
  • “Ate O.G.” by Kevin Mayuga
  • “Beauty Queen” by Myra Aquino
  • “Crossing” by Marc Misa
  • “Kawatan sa Salog” by Alphie Velasco
  • “Kids on Fire” by Kyle Nieva
  • “Looking for Rafflesias and Other Fleeting Things” by James Fajardo
  • “Maski Papano” by Che Tagyamon and Glenn Barit
  • “Namnama En Lolang” by Jonnie Lyn P. Dasalla
  • “Out of Body” by Enrico Po
  • “The Dust in your Place” by David Olson

Aside from the films being streamed, Cinemalaya 2021 will also have two screenwriting programs. They are also creating a film lab, which according to Cinemalaya Foundation Inc. president Laurice Guillen, “will be part of the competition process in the 2023 edition.”
