Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon 2023 watch and trophy
Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz shows both his trophy and Rolex Daytona in a triumphant win.

While we couldn’t take our eyes off the sportsmanship of the Grand Slam Championships, we were also watch-spotting nine of the best luxury watches at Wimbledon 2023.

The Wimbledon 2023 Grand Slam tournament has culminated after riveting championship matches. Playing only his fourth grass event, the 20-year-old Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz prevailed against the record-holding Serbian player Novak Djokovic. For the Women’s Singles, Czech player Markéta Vondroušová was proclaimed champion against Tunisian player Ons Jabeur.

Rolex has been advertised as the official timekeeper of the Grand Slam tournament for over four decades. Yet while other sports have timed conclusions like the 12-minute quarters in Basketball or 90-minute matches in soccer, tennis runs without a time limit. With no precise need in the sport to time-keep, this brings the question to mind, where do watches come in?

Considered the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon, in particular, is one such event with a rich history, tradition, and inevitably—style. Spectators often attend donning fresh linen suits and elegant dresses. At the same time, the players themselves adhere to a strict, all-white dress code. The social scene includes a slew of celebrities and often members of the royal family, as they indulge in the pretty British drink Pimm’s.

See some of the best luxury timepieces spotted both on and off the court that aligns with the prestige of Wimbledon itself.

1. Carlos Alcaraz wears an impressive Rolex Daytona

Alcaraz’s wrist candy was highly visible as he held his trophy high up in the air to show his triumphant win. The new Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz wore one of Rolex’s most iconic and also most highly in-demand watches, made famous by race car driver Paul Newman. The Rolex Daytona in yellow gold with a meteorite dial shows a flat and durable finish cut from raw meteorite materials found way back in Namibia in 1836. The timepiece rested firmly on his wrist with an Oysterflex rubber bracelet. His specific watch was introduced in 2021 and was discontinued just this year in 2023.

2. Novak Djokovic wears a tennis-green Hublot Big Bang Integral Green Ceramic Watch

The Serbian tennis legend showed his disappointment at his loss post-match – but not enough to forget to wear his sponsor’s timepiece. As the ambassador of Hublot, he wore a 42mm Hublot Big Bang Integral Green Ceramic. The limited edition piece shone in a grass-court-like green ceramic case with a satin finish, linked together by an integrated bracelet.

3. Roger Federer wears the Rolex Sky-Dweller watch

While Roger Federer may not have been on the court at Wimbledon, he was still in the spotlight. Seated next to Catherine, Princess of Wales, the retired world champion received a special ceremony celebrating his Wimbledon wins throughout his career. As the GOAT smiled and waved, he unknowingly brandished his wristwatch. He wore the Rolex Sky-Dweller crafted by a 42 mm case in Oystersteel and white gold with a captivating blue dial and Oyster bracelet. The watch features two time zones set one within the other. Since 2006, Federer has been one of the iconic faces as a Rolex ambassador, often wearing models yet unseen by the public.

4. Mirka Federer wears a diamond and emerald-studded Rolex Day-Date

While Roger’s watch goes for a retail price of $17,500, his wife Mirka’s watch goes a couple of hundred bucks higher at €430,000. It’s no mystery why, either. The watch is made up of sumptuous elements, from a dial bedazzled with pave diamonds and accented by two baguette-cut emerald indexes at 6 and 9 o’clock. The bezel itself shows the craftsmanship of the Swiss watchmakers with a face lined by a jaw-dropping emerald bezel.

5. Brad Pitt Wears wears a tasteful vintage Vacheron Constantin Jumbo 222

Wimbledon commentators were quick to notice the presence of Brad Pitt in the crowd. The Hollywood actor was in attendance to watch the final match between Alcaraz and Djokovic on the last day of the Championships. Sitting next to film director Guy Ritchie, he looked uber-cool in freshly cut hair and gold-wired aviators. But on his wrist was a dealbreaker.

The star wore a vintage Vacheron Constantin Jumbo 44018. A classic exercise in 1970s industrial design, the 222 is a stainless steel-integrated sports watch in the same tradition as the Patek Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Brad Pitt is not sponsored by Vacheron either, showing that the timepiece was a personal choice.

6. Benedict Cumberbatch Wears Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox

Known for his roles as Sherlock and Dr. Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch wore a smart pale blue suit to complement the midnight blue dial on his Jaeger-LeCoultre. The piece of high horology features the brand’s 1950s alarm used by the Memovox sports models, which emits an acoustic signal as reminder for divers to emerge out of deep waters.

7. Iga Swiatek wears a Rose Gold Rolex Lady Datejust

Currently ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association, the Polish player Iga Swiatek sported an attractive ladies’ watch at a press conference. Swiatek wore a 28mm rose gold Rolex Lady Datejust with matching rose gold dial, fluted bezel, and elegant Roman numerals to mark the hours.

8. Tommy Paul gets into the Wimbledon spirit with the De Bethune DB28 LTC in Titanium

American tennis player Tommy Paul kicked off the first day of Wimbledon with the release of De Bethune’s DB28 watch in the purple and green colors of the Grand Slam. The 39mm titanium watch shows a textured green dial, circled by the hours like miniature tennis courts. At the 12 o’clock mark is a gold-toned titanium 3D tennis ball. Altogether, the watch displays instantly recognizable markers of the British tennis tournament.

9. Daniel Craig shows sartorial style with the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Co-Axial GMT

After his many starring roles playing double 007, the James Bond actor has long been the face of the Omega brand. So it’s no surprise that the actor was wearing a particularly striking Omega Seamaster to observe the match. In a grey suit and a red kerchief in his pocket, he sat next to his wife Rachel Weisz. Craig’s watch featured a dark blue dial with pops of orange, complementing the actor’s sartorial ensemble.
